Who they are Publishing Deal for Suchness

Imagine Alanis Morisette doing a cover of Suchness' Spellweaver. It could happen because Suchness' singer and songwriter Noel Yeo has become Singapore's first unsigned musician to have a three-year publishing deal with Warner/Chappell, an international music publisher. This means all songs written by Yeo during the period will be promoted by Warner/Chappell to international artists who may be looking for new pop songs.

Suchness' Spellweaver, which can be found on Levi's/BigO's Singles Club CD No. 3, is also generating radio play on NTUC Radio Heart FM91.3. Said Warner/Chappell publishing manager Liz Cheam," Noel is a promising young songwriter whom we believe has the potential to sell his songs to other artists." Yeo will be doing his homework and sending new demos to his publisher soon.

Singapore musicians have awaken to the idea of assigning their songs to publishing companies, hopeful that an international act will cover their songs. Kevin Matthews of The Crowd has his songs assigned to BMG while Joe Ng of the Padres is represented by Rock records. Singer-songwriter Dick Lee is also on Warner/Chappell. - By Micheal Cheah (BigO December 1996)

Reviews Spellweaver

Eager beavers that they are, Suchness have used the Internet to load Spellweaver on NME.COM, the UK music weekly's popular website. That says a lot about their confidence and camaraderie for a band that formed as recently as November '95 and took a shot at the BigO Singles Club contest and WON.

Spellweaver is catchy pop/rock with an unorthodox solo in the middle. Just the thing the band will do to break any mould you try to fit on them. These guys are really upfront about what they want and they'll trawl the great wide oceans of pop, rock, grunge and whatever to find cool things to fit into their songs. Currently completing the recording of their first demo, you'll be sorry if you don't keep at least one eye open for this ambitious band. - By Stephen Tan
